Swans in Love Performs in Beipiao, Liaoning
Mar 27,2023

More than 1,500 white swans spread their wings and dance, bend their necks and sing, or flap their wings and fly by the swan lake.
The river bank is teeming with tourists. They all stop to take pictures of the graceful and beautiful swans.

The 2023 Launching Ceremony of Chaoyang Spring Tourism Festival & The First Beipiao Swan Festival has been held recently. Under the theme of “Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains are Invaluable Assets; Man and Nature Live in Harmony”, this is one of series spring tourism promotion events in Liaoning. It aims to build and promote the overall image of the Chaoyang City as “a civilized city, home to birds and flowers”, and to accelerate the in-depth integration of ecology, culture, tourism, sports and intangible cultural heritage. Taking the advantage of cultural tourism to boost development, the festival also raises the profile of Chaoyang’s special cultural tourism brand, and improves the notability and reputation of the Chaoyang City.

Beipiao City is a major stopover and feeding ground for migratory birds travelling between East Asia and Australia. Every early spring sees around 80,000 migratory birds, including white swans, stop and inhabit here. The species and numbers grow year by year. Since 2001, more than 7,000 whooper swans have inhabited here, accounting for more than 30 percent of the swans in Liaoning’s wetlands.

At the Swan Festival, two boutique routes of spring tourism activities are introduced and promoted by the Chaoyang City. The first route is for flower and bird watching: Dahei Mountain -- Swan Lake Scenic Area -- Luotuo Mountain -- Huaishu Cave Scenic Resort. The second is for historical and cultural site visiting: National Park Niuheliang Archaeological Site -- Chaoyang Bird Fossil National Geological Park -- Fenghuang Mountain -- North Pagoda Museum.

The best time viewing swans is between late February to early April. Visitors go to Beipiao Station by high-speed train first, then arrive at the destination after 5 km along the Liangsan highway by taxi. Self-driving tourists can drive along the Jingsi highway, veer off at the Beipiao Daban interchange, then turn left into the Liangsan highway and drive 4 km.
