From mid-afternoon to evening every day, a vibrant scene unfolds as more than 60 motor vehicles line up in a row, opening up their trunks in a neat and orderly fashion. Stalls are adorned with colorful lights and various types of merchandise are sorted and displayed, such as delicious tiramisu, fragrant coffee, delicate silver jewelry, and stress-relieving children’s toys. Each private car becomes a mobile grocery, creating a lively scene in the 400-year-old Zhongjie Street of Shenyang.

A new attraction on West Zhongjie Pedestrian Street as the “Zhongjie Street in Ancient City·Car Boot Sale with Flower Ripple” made a quiet debut. Many young people with ideas and personalities have been attracted to this event, and have showcased their talents. Serving as a shining beacon in the street’s “Night Economy”, the car boot sale has become a sought-after destination, earning a reputation as a trendy and internet-famous hotspot.

When a boot is opened, a plethora of items greet the eye – decorations, homemade artworks, and more – all loaded into a “car boot stall”. Shen, a post-90s entrepreneur, decided to embark on his own business venture after graduation. Upon learning of the car boot sale in Zhongjie Street, he meticulously prepared his proudest works to share with like-minded individuals. For him, making a profit is not the primary objective. Instead, he thinks that meeting new friends is the greatest reward for participating in such a new and passionate venue.

Just like Shen’s “car boot stall”, each boot at the market is akin to a miniature creative factory. Here, stall owners operate with full creativity, showcasing intangible cultural heritage handicraft works, cultural and creative derivatives, floral artworks, food, desserts, and other goods. Each stall is unique, and vendors find innovative ways to present their wares from day to night, transforming the consumer experience and breathing new life into the market.
