Taizi River in Benxi, A Paradisal Habitat for Chinese Mergansers
六月 11,2023

The habitat of Chinese mergansers in Benxi, a provincial nature reserve, is located in the middle of Benxi Manchu Autonomous County. Every year, dozens of wild waterbirds gather in flocks and build nests here. They include Chinese merganser, white-tailed sea-eagle, whooper swan, tundra swan, mandarin duck, smew and so on. The Chinese merganser is an endemic species under China’s national first-level animal protection. It is an endangered species in the world, which is even rarer than the Chinese alligator. It has been both included in the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List of Threatened Species and the ICBP (International Council for Bird Preservation) Bird Red Data Book.
