Zhangwu County, Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, has created another miracle in desertification control: transforming sandy land into paddy fields.

In the “paddy wetland” of Daleng Town, Zhangwu County, Fuxin City, rice grows well here, and its fragrance can come out in golden October.

In the face of severe soil and wind-sand erosion along the Liuhe River Basin, Zhangwu County launched the “paddy wetland” project in 2021, with new pipelines bringing in the surplus water resources of the Naodehai Reservoir, thus transforming the dry fields into “paddy wetland”, so as to keep water in summer and autumn and sand in spring and winter, effectively addressing the problem of desertification of cultivated land.

So far, Zhangwu County has transformed more than 18,000 mu of dry field into 10.4 square kilometers of wetlands, effectively curbing the expansion of Horqin sandy land southward.
