Making Friends Through Food: “Unique Liaoning Flavor” in South Korea

The first event of “Unique Liaoning Flavor” was hosted in Seongnam City, South Korea on September 11. It was themed “Making Friends through Food, A Culinary Gathering at Dong Seoul University”.

“Unique Liaoning Flavor” events in South Korea were hosted in the course of three days, including themed activities such as “A Culinary Exchange Gathering with Liaoning Cuisine” and “A Dialogue between Liaoning Barbecue and South Korean Barbeque”. It also set up an exhibition area to showcase Liaoning’s unique culinary ingredients. Renowned Chinese and South Korean chefs were invited to promote the unique culinary ingredients of Liaoning and demonstrate the Liaoning culinary skills. The events were aimed at promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and other countries in the world, showcasing and promoting Chinese culinary culture, and boosting the industrial development of the Liaoning cuisine.

The exhibition area of Liaoning’s unique culinary ingredients showcases over 40 best-known brands of Liaoning products, including Shenyang Yuyuan Pickled Chinese Cabbage, Liaoning Nongfeng Rice, Liaoning Hongqiao Cordyceps Militaris and so on.

In the cooking event, Shi Yong, a master chef and member of the Association of Chinese Cuisines in South Korea, cooked special Liaoning dishes such as Guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), a stew of pickled Chinese cabbage and pork spine, and Kaixiang tofu (stir-fried tofu with vegetables and meat). The South Korean master chef Li Xiangfang combined the Liaoning ingredients with South Korean culinary concepts, applied ingredients ingeniously, and cooked the traditional South Korean dishes such as the South Korean bibimbap, gimbap, and cordyceps and ginseng chicken soup with ingredients from Liaoning.
