On December 7, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held the third press conference of the “Nature’s Embrace, Liaoning’s Grace” series, introducing Panjin’s significant efforts this year in promoting ice and snow tourism, winter sports, and ice and snow cultural experiences. It highlighted the main measures, key events, relevant arrangements, and distinctive features aimed at fostering the development of the ice and snow economy.
Panjin is fully leveraging its distinctive resources in ice and snow, hot springs, cultural heritage, and folk customs to establish four major thematic sections, namely “Passionate Ice and Snow”, “Zero-Degree Fashion”, “Winter Charm of the Liaohe River” and “Flavors of Ice and Snow”, with the objective of forging a new development pattern for its ice and snow industry.
Under the theme of “Passionate Ice and Snow”, Panjin will take the lead in driving its ice and snow economy through top-notch sporting events. By skillfully leveraging its “sea ice and river ice” resources, the city will utilize ice-based sports as a platform to organize extensive winter competitions encompassing ice skating, snow activities, ice fishing, and winter swimming. The ultimate goal is to develop national-level ice and snow sports brands and host China’s Northernmost Coastal Ice Crossing Challenge Competition, relying on the extraordinary spectacle of the river ice at the estuary of the Liaohe River.
To establish the theme of “Zero-Degree Fashion”, Panjin will stimulate winter consumption through cultural tourism activities. With a focus on holiday consumption markets such as New Year, Spring Festival, and Lantern Festival, the city will launch a series of captivating winter cultural tourism and sports activities that will benefit the public. These initiatives aim to develop and expand the trendy ice and snow economy while planning a myriad of enchanting ice and snow carnivals.
Regarding the theme of “Winter Charm of the Liaohe River”, Panjin plans to thrive on folk culture, bringing vibrancy to the holiday market. It will utilize traditional intangible cultural heritage, folk festivals, and original art as platforms to demonstrate outstanding cultural and artistic works. This will create a vibrant atmosphere of festive artistry, enhance immersive experiences for the public, and promote the prosperity of the winter cultural market.
For the theme of “Flavors of Ice and Snow”, Panjin aims to use traditional cuisine to enhance its regional reputation. By highlighting its distinctive traditional food, the city will utilize gastronomy as a catalyst to boost tourism, stimulate consumption, and enrich leisure activities. The goal is to transform the local Liaohekou fisherman’s cuisine into a new favorite in “culinary tourism”, making culinary delights an integral part of the scenic landscape.
