On December 14, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held the fifth press conference of the “Nature’s Embrace, Liaoning’s Grace” series, introducing Dandong’s significant efforts this year in promoting ice and snow-related tourism, sports and cultural experiences. It highlighted the main measures, key events, relevant arrangements, and distinctive features aimed at fostering the development of the ice and snow economy.

Dandong aims to create the winter harmonious integration of culture, sports, and tourism under the guidance of the “Three Fours” framework, consisting of “four integrative activities”, “four distinctive highlights”, and “four themed events”.

To present the “four integrative activities”, Dandong will emphasize “ice and snow + hot springs” to utilize the region’s abundant hot spring resources for public enjoyment during the cold winter season. It will combine “ice and snow + folk customs”, infusing the vibrant hues of diverse ethnic cultures so that visitors can immerse themselves in Dandong’s rich folk traditions. It will merge “ice and snow + cuisine”, inviting the public to partake in greenhouse picking and savor local delicacies during the winter storage season. Meanwhile, it will promote “ice and snow + cultural creativity”, utilizing light industries such as outdoor clothing and watches to showcase the charm of cultural and creative products.

As for cultivating “four distinctive highlights”, Dandong will host high-quality ice and snow events, continually expanding the ice and snow industry chain in the integration of culture, sports and tourism. Leveraging its major ski resorts and frozen lakes and rivers, the city will offer a diverse range of ice and snow activities accessible to all. Moreover, it is committed to establishing ice and snow-featured brand events that foster the growth of winter sports brands. Finally, by integrating skiing, ice skating, unique cuisine, and ethnic culture, Dandong will create a vibrant and joyful environment where “ice and snow are also invaluable assets”.

In launching the “four themed events”, Dandong will not only carry out the Snow Appreciation and Blessing Festival, along with a series of ice and snow events, but also introduce preferential policies that integrate culture, sports and tourism. The city will play host to renowned events like the Liaoning Public Skiing Series, striving to become a premier venue for national and provincial high-level ice and snow competitions. It will also organize a variety of traditional and artistic Spring Festival activities, incorporating folk cultural events and intangible cultural heritage projects, to create distinctive rural experiences. Lastly, Dandong will introduce culinary experiences in characteristic commercial districts and host cultural tourism activities that combine strawberry picking with hot spring relaxation, providing visitors with a diverse array of shopping options.
