Liaoning’s Industrial Economy Achieves Best Performance in Recent Years

On January 24, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held the fourth press conference of the series on the economic performance of Liaoning in 2023, presenting a comprehensive overview and major achievements of the province’s industrial economy in 2023.

In 2023, Liaoning made solid progress in promoting new type industrialization and boosting Liaoning’s strength in digital development and intelligent manufacturing. The added value of industries above the designated size in Liaoning increased by 5.0% year-on-year, surpassing the national average by 0.4%, with 13 cities experiencing positive growth. Eight cities outperformed the national average, with growth rates higher than the provincial average. Key industries showed positive trends, with the equipment manufacturing industry growing by 9.1%, the petrochemical industry by 4.9%, the metallurgical industry by 3.8%, and the consumer goods manufacturing industry by 3.9%. Key enterprises maintained stable operations, with BMW Brilliance Automobile Ltd. and Sany Heavy Equipment International Holdings Co., Ltd. achieving respective output value growth of 8.9% and 12.7%, and Pfizer with an output value growth of 8.7%.

Efforts were made to deepen the integration and application of new generation information technology, promoting the digitalization, networking, and intelligent transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries. Liaoning accumulated over 110,000 5G base stations, and the number of provincial-level 5G factories reached 40. The successful hosting of the 2023 Global Industrial Internet Conference achieved unprecedented influence. Additionally, there were 185 new provincial-level digital workshops and smart factories, with seven companies recognized as national-level smart factories and 40 scenarios awarded as national-level excellent intelligent manufacturing scenarios. Shenyang and Dalian were selected as the first batch of national pilot cities for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Furthermore, Liaoning continued to optimize the business environment, guiding enterprises towards specialized, refined, and innovative development. It fostered 3,356 innovative SMEs, 958 specialized, refined, and innovative SMEs, and 41 specialized, refined, and innovative “little giant” enterprises. The province also supported 56 provincial champions in specific manufacturing sectors, facilitating the listing and financing of three specialized, refined, and innovative enterprises: Donghe New Material, Dalian Hellon Piston, and Kingchem Life Science.
