Shenyang Imperial Palace, built in 1625, is one of the two most well-preserved imperial palace complexes in China. Shenyang Palace Museum has a collection of more than a hundred thousand pieces of cultural relics, many of which are decorated with dragon motifs, such as dragon shaped baotou beams, the golden lacquer plaque inscribed with “Zi Qi Dong Lai” - a propitious omen meaning the purple air comes from the east - surrounded by a golden nine-dragon pattern frame, golden dragon-wreathed columns, colored glazed pillar heads, dragon head-shaped drain outlets, and stone relief carvings featuring rounded dragon patterns.
