On June 24, the “Experiencing China·Charming Liaoning” event was held in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province. Twenty-seven international students from Liaoning University, Shenyang Normal University, Shenyang University of Chemical Technology and Shenyang Agricultural University came to Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service to attend the traditional Chinese cultural experience event.
The group of international students dressed in hanfu (traditional Chinese attire) and qipao (or cheongsam) wandered through the campus embraced by lush trees, immersing themselves in traditional Chinese culture. The students were from various countries, such as Afghanistan, Belarus, Laos, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Yemen and Zambia. Despite their diverse cultural backgrounds, they all had a great passion for Chinese culture.
The cultural experience activities on that day included sand painting, qipao sewing, traditional Chinese clothing style experiencing and cultural performances. Among them, the clothing style experience activity was the most popular. Students from the College of Art Design of Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service designed clothing styles for the international students. After just 20 minutes, they were all dressed in traditional Chinese attire and looked entirely different, as if strolling out of traditional Chinese paintings. Arina, a Russian international student, wearing a qipao and with high-bunned hair, rejoiced in taking selfies. “The Chinese qipaos are so beautiful. Today is my first time wearing a qipao. I feel very happy.” Arina said excitedly.
At the gala, students from Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service performed the Chinese classical dance Floating Light and the qipao catwalk show Elegant Rhythm for the international students. The delicacy, elegance and ethereal beauty of traditional Chinese art captivated all the audience. The Chinese and international students then sang the Chinese classic song Jasmine Flower together, which brought the gala to a climax. Amanullah Sherzad, an Afghan international student from Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, noted, “The ‘Experiencing China·Charming Liaoning’ event is very meaningful. Through the immersive experience activities, we have felt the brilliance of Chinese culture, and become even more fascinated by it.”
The “Experiencing China·Charming Liaoning” cultural exchange event is a friendly foreign exchange brand continuously built by the Liaoning Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. It opens a window for international students to experience China and understand Liaoning, and provides strong support for Liaoning universities to improve their education internationalization level, thereby promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Liaoning Province and countries all around the world.
