On July 24, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference, introducing the employment situation in Liaoning for the first half of 2024.
In the first six months, 268,000 urban jobs were added across the province, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.5% and fulfilling 58.2% of the annual target. The surveyed urban unemployment rate remained within the appropriate range. The sound momentum of college graduates and other youth groups returning to or remaining in Liaoning to find jobs or start businesses was kept and the proportion of newly employed middle-aged and young individuals in total employment increased steadily, maintaining overall stable employment across the province.
During this period, Liaoning intensified its efforts to provide employment services for enrolled students, introducing 254,000 jobs in enterprises to universities and organizing key employers within the province to conduct recruitment events in universities in other provinces and regions. By the end of June, the proportion of students who graduated from universities and secured jobs in this province in 2024 was higher than that of the same period last year.
At the same time, targeting older, low-skilled, and under-educated individuals, the province introduced information on jobs with low thresholds and based at places in the vicinity of where they live to them and made paired efforts to help rural laborers to resume work. In the first six months, the province has assisted 43,000 individuals who had difficulty seeking employment, 202,000 urban unemployed individuals to get re-employed, and 751,000 rural laborers to transfer out of agriculture. At least one person from each zero-employment household has obtained employment.
In the second half of this year, Liaoning will assist job seekers in growing into better applicants required by the changing market, shortening the time they prepare for the jobs, and improving their adaptability. The province will also get connected with students who will graduate in 2025 in advance, strengthen the management of students and their own files, ensure 100% employment for graduates who are from disadvantaged families and have the willingness to work, and stabilize the employment scale and income level of migrant workers, especially those who have been lifted out of poverty.
