How proficient are international students in speaking Chinese? The 2024 Chinese Language Performance Contest of Liaoning University was held on December 6. International students from Russia, Belgium, Japan, Vietnam, Côte d’Ivoire and other countries showcased their Chinese language skills through songs, speeches, poetry recitation, musicals and sketches, presenting a wonderful performance for the audience on site.

International students from different countries actively participated in various activities. Some sang Chinese songs like Sweet Love and The Moon Represents My Heart with proficient Chinese. Some dressed in Hanfu (traditional Han Chinese clothing), and recited ancient poems of the Tang Dynasty. Some produced vlogs in the bustling Xiaoheyan morning market in Shenyang to recommend Guobaorou (sweet and sour pork), chicken ribs and other local cuisine to their peers. Some mastered Chinese kung fu, displaying their rope dart skills with extraordinary dexterity and vigor. International students from different countries worked together to perform sketches, sing songs and dance, collectively demonstrating their understanding and love for Chinese culture.

At this Chinese language performance contest, international students demonstrated their solid and fluent Chinese language skills, shared their inseparable bonds with Liaoning Province, and expressed their heartfelt wishes to serve as messengers for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges and promoters of Chinese culture. “So far, the best part of my life was spent in China, where I have gained a deep understanding of China’s culture of trust. China and Russia trust each other and share common beliefs. I will share my insights and appreciation of Chinese culture with more friends,” said Shen Yue, a Russian international student.
