2024-12-20

On December 20, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference of the series on the “Nature’s Embrace, Liaoning’s Grace” ice and snow economy in Chaoyang, introducing more than 110 events across five major series, all centered around the theme of “Northeast Charm, Joyful Chaoyang”.

The five major series of events are “Dynamic Ice and Snow, Sporty Chaoyang”, “Intangible Heritage Celebrates Spring Festival, Festive Chaoyang”, “Icy Wonderland, Warm Chaoyang”, “A Date with Swans, Romantic Chaoyang”, and “Northeast Flavors, Culinary Chaoyang”. Spanning the entire winter season, these activities display the unique ice and snow culture and the distinct charm of the Northeast China, catering to the diverse interests of visitors.

Starting in early January, a series of exciting ice and snow recreational competitions will kick off, offering activities such as snowball fights, ice spinning top games, dragon boat racing on ice, horse-drawn sledding, ice sledge racing, cycling competitions on ice, and snowmobile races. These exciting events will provide visitors with endless fun in the winter wonderland. Cultural activities that blend modern art with traditional folk customs will also take center stage. The “Ancient Town Spring Festival” series will feature intangible cultural heritage projects and their inheritors, along with unique yangko (a popular rural folk dance) performances such as float parades, stilt dances, and traditional folk dances. Chaoyang’s new landmark, the 1958 Science Park, has offered fresh winter tourism experiences. Additionally, visitors can indulge in the soothing warmth of local hot springs, including Daheishan Hot Spring in Beipiao City, Longteng Hot Spring in Shuangta District, Yulong Valley Hot Spring in Harqin Left Wing Mongolian Autonomous County, and Reshuitang Hot Spring in Lingyuan County-level City, providing a unique blend of relaxation and cultural charm. Chaoyang will also host the Third Swan Festival, inviting tourists to capture picturesque moments and create unforgettable memories.

Moreover, Chaoyang has meticulously planned four winter tourist routes. The Hongshan Culture Roots-Seeking Journey explores the oldest civilization of Chinese culture; the Three-Yan Trace Exploration Tour delves into the former capital of the Great Yan State (1044BC–222BC), experiencing that tumultuous, magnificent, and mysteriously enchanting history; the Swan City Ecological Tour allows visitors to observe swans’ elegant postures up close at the Swan Bay in Hongcun Village; the Winter Ice and Snow Tour lets visitors experience the unique charm of nature’s beauty and the vitality of sports in the world of ice and snow.
