Donald Sturgeon, a scholar of computer science from the UK, recalled his visit to the Dunhuang Academy and was deeply impressed by the academy’s achievements in the digital preservation of cultural heritage. Over the past 20 years, Dunhuang Academy has made tremendous progress in cultural heritage preservation. Ranging from 3D modeling and scanning of grottoes to the restoration of cultural relics, the Dunhuang Academy has empowered the cultural heritage preservation with technology, demonstrating China’s outstanding achievements in this field.
