To celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival, the Liaoning Provincial Museum, in collaboration with performing arts organizations, has created and staged a seven-scene short play titled World of Poetry and Painting. The play stars teenagers and children, who gain a deeper understanding of the exhibition China in Poetry and Painting currently being held at the Liaoning Provincial Museum through participating in the immersive performance.

On the stage, the seven-scene play World of Poetry and Painting gently unfolds like a painting scroll. With the integration of poetry and painting as its core, it threads together stories from painting and calligraphy works of different ages. The entire play is divided into seven scenes: “Opening: Lady Guoguo’s Spring Outing”, “Transition: Moonlit Night on Spring River”, “Seclusion: A Visit to Wangchuan”, “Peach Blossom Spring: Inquiry into Peach Garden”, “Ancient Elegance: Tang Dynasty Style”, “Heroic Ambition: Li Bai’s Spirit”, and “Epilogue: Childlike Innocence in Poetry and Painting”. The young actors transform into people in the paintings and poems, immersing themselves in the poetic and picturesque China.

The scene play deepens the theme of the exhibition China in Poetry and Painting, transporting the audience into that era of history, the vivid scenes of the artworks, and the essence of the poetic spirit. Beyond merely displaying poetry and painting in exhibit cases, the play aims to truly allow the cultural spirit embodied in ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting works to resonate with the hearts of the audience.
