To celebrate the arrival of the Bingwu Year of the Horse, the Liaoning Provincial Museum is pleased to present Galloping Hooves: Chinese Zodiac Artifacts Exhibition for the Bingwu Year of the Horse, the latest exhibition in its cherished Chinese Zodiac series.

As a symbol of speed, power, loyalty, and pioneering spirit, the horse embodies the Chinese nation’s ethos of tireless self-improvement and indomitable spirit. For this exhibition, the museum has delved deep into its collections to curate a premier selection of over 100 horse-themed cultural relics, covering paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, bronzeware, jade, and silk embroidery.

The exhibition is organized into five thematic chapters, including “Steeds in Stable: Art of Domestication”, “Leaping Forward: Galloping Across Vast Lands”, “Light Hooves: Joy of Equestrian Life”, “Divine Steeds: Eternal Beauty in Art”, and “Vigorous Spirit: A Legacy Through Millennia”. Through these lenses, the exhibition systematically explores the vital roles that horses have played in transportation, ritual, warfare, entertainment, and art, thereby offering a comprehensive historical survey of China’s enduring equine culture.

The museum employs scenario recreations, multimedia interactions, and digital projections to evoke a grand and immersive atmosphere of “countless gallops”. Visitors can enjoy an intimate view of intricate artifact details, while being fully immersed in the vibrant energy of equine culture. These interactive elements not only add fun to the exhibition, but also deepen visitors’ understanding and appreciation of the essence of Chinese equine culture, allowing these ancient zodiac stories to continue to resonate through generations.
