On March 23, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference in connection with World Meteorological Day to introduce meteorological services in support of the province’s high-quality economic and social development.

During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Liaoning will focus on modernizing meteorological science and technology capabilities and public services, accelerate efforts to shore up weak links in flood control and disaster mitigation, and strengthen its capacity to respond to extreme weather. The province will also implement eight major projects, including a project to enhance monitoring, forecasting, early warning, and emergency response capabilities for major meteorological disasters, a meteorological support project for maritime safety, and a weather modification project to support water resource security. These efforts will further strengthen basic meteorological capabilities and improve the quality and efficiency of meteorological services.

In recent years, Liaoning has focused on food security and agricultural production, and established a new meteorological service system for agriculture across the entire agricultural production chain. Covering every stage from plowing and planting to field management, harvesting and storage, the province regularly releases 15 types of service products, including annual agrometeorological outlooks, meteorological services for key farming seasons, soil moisture monitoring and forecasting, and risk warnings for agrometeorological disasters, with the aim of providing precise meteorological services for government decision-making and scientifically planned farming operations.

In addition, on the occasion of the 66th World Meteorological Day, meteorological authorities across Liaoning have actively promoted meteorological knowledge to improve public scientific literacy and disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities. Through a combination of online and offline activities, as well as visits and hands-on activities, they have organized a series of distinctive science outreach events, promoted immersive meteorological science outreach, and provided guidance to the public and businesses on preventing and responding to meteorological disasters.
