The “From the Splendor of Shengjing to the Prosperity of Gusu” themed study tour in Shenyang, Liaoning Province and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province is a joint initiative by the Liaoning Provincial Museum and the Suzhou Museum, centered around the special exhibition The Prosperity of Gusu. It represents a captivating encounter between Liaoning’s profound cultural heritage and Jiangsu’s enduring cultural tradition.

A study tour team from the Suzhou Museum recently visited the Liaoning Provincial Museum, completing a series of bilingual (Chinese and English) museum study tour courses. Immersed in Liaoning’s history and culture, they gained a wealth of information and fresh ideas. Professional guides from the Liaoning Provincial Museum warmly welcomed the Suzhou study tour team, providing in-depth explanations of the museum’s exquisite artifacts. The young participants from Suzhou visited the “Ancient Liaoning” exhibition hall, gaining a comprehensive and systematic understanding of Liaoning’s history, and admired precious cultural relics such as the Jade Pig-Shaped Dragon up close, appreciating the profound cultural heritage of Liaoning through vivid and detailed explanations. The Suzhou youth also participated in a handicraft experience activity, “replicating” the shapes of national treasures, feeling the beauty of cultural relics, and deepening their understanding of Liaoning culture through hands-on practice.

During the study tour, the Suzhou youth visited the exhibition Where the Guardian Mountain Meets the Sea: Exhibition of Archaeological Discoveries From the Liao Imperial Mausoleums at Yiwulyu Mountain. They learned about the historical status of Yiwulyu Mountain as a famed mountain in Northeast China, and experienced the unique Liao Dynasty culture. Thus, they further understood the diverse and integrated cultural characteristics of Liaoning, with their horizons and knowledge enriched. They also stepped into the “Glamour of the Tang and Song Dynasties—The Art World in Digital Painting Realm” exhibition hall, where they admired the beauty of ancient calligraphy and painting works through modern digital technologies such as holographic projection, panoramic lighting, dome immersion, and VR interaction.

This study tour interaction received unanimous praise from the Suzhou study tour team. They commended the Liaoning Provincial Museum for its innovative exhibitions and abundant resources. The Liaoning Provincial Museum and the Suzhou Museum will leverage this opportunity to continue building bridges for communication and learning between young people from both provinces, promoting the sharing of museum resources and long-term cooperation, and contributing to a new chapter in cultural exchanges between the two provinces.
