Located in Chaoyang, Liaoning Province, the Niuheliang site is one of the most important archaeological sites of the late Neolithic Hongshan culture and offers a remarkable glimpse into the early development of Chinese civilization. More than 5,800 years ago, this mountain landscape was home to a grand ceremonial complex of altars, a goddess temple, and stone-built tombs, reflecting a highly organized ritual tradition.

Recent discoveries, including large rammed-earth platforms and newly identified ritual features, have further highlighted Niuheliang’s role as the core area of an early regional polity. Today, visitors can still sense the spiritual world of a society that revered Heaven, honored its ancestors, and treasured jade, preserving the legacy of one of the origins of Chinese civilization.
