On April 9, the Dalian Port container terminal of Liaoning Port Group was bustling with activity. In front of Berth 9, two cranes were operating smoothly, lifting and rotating cargo from a Russian ship to the shore continuously.

What came out of the hold were not containers, but boxes of bulk cargo. Container trucks, ready to transport these goods, were parked less than 10 meters away from the ship. Several forklifts were operating in a loop between the trucks and the ship, with skilled drivers effortlessly transporting neatly stacked pallets into the containers.

“Frozen fish has now become a regular cargo type, and there are usually several frozen fish operations per week. We have implemented a dual supervision mechanism of on-site inspection and video monitoring to ensure smooth and controllable ship operations from all aspects.” said Gao Hongyi, senior project manager of the heavy cargo handling team.

Since the beginning of the year, the Dalian Port container terminal has handled 14 frozen fish vessels, unloading 60,000 tons of frozen fish. “Not only has frozen fish operation been booming at the port this year, but also cherry operation has achieved a ‘great harvest’! The import volume has increased by 150% compared with the same period last year.” said Wu Zhonghai, marketing manager.

Ports are a barometer of local economic conditions. In recent years, Dalian Port has been pushing forward the construction of cold chain logistics distribution centers, which has helped to facilitate the rapid growth of the cold chain business. Some of its business has already reached a leading level among major coastal ports in China. With the gradual implementation of relevant policies, Dalian Port has fully leveraged its advantageous position, well-established cold chain logistics service network, and convenient customs clearance conditions to rapidly hot up the cold chain business.
