In 2024, China and France will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and jointly host the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. To strengthen cultural exchanges and promote interaction and cooperation between museums in the two countries, officials from the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum recently visited Paris, France. They conducted exchanges with the Palace of Versailles, The National Guimet Museum of Asian Art, the National Library of France, and the French public college. During the exchange, the promotional video for the Shenyang Imperial Palace made its debut in Paris, attracting the attention and praise from local cultural and museum workers.

The four French institutions have expressed their willingness to establish long-term online and offline exchanges with the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum, establishing a two-way exchange and communication mechanism between the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum and French cultural institutions. In the future, both sides will carry out a range of two-way cultural collaborations, such as personnel exchanges, cooperative exhibitions, and academic research to promote fine traditional Chinese culture to the world and facilitate cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and other countries.

From April to July 2024, the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum plans to collaborate with The National Guimet Museum of Asian Art and other cultural institutions to hold a painting exhibition entitled “East Meets West: The Artistic World of Lang Shining”. The exhibition will feature a collection of cultural relics and a digital exhibition, with a total of 60 exhibits.

In the second half of 2024, the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum plans to collaborate with the French public college to organize the “Hunting with Bows and Horses: Shengjing hunting grounds Panorama and the Fishing and Hunting Life of the Manchu People” exhibition. It will feature cultural relics such as court bows and arrows, horse equipment, and armor in the Qing Dynasty from the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum, as well as the Shengjing hunting grounds Panorama painted by a court painter in the Qing Dynasty and held in the collection of the French public college, showcasing the hunting culture of the Shengjing region during the Qing Dynasty.

In the second half of 2025, the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum plans to collaborate with the National Library of France to host the “Affection for Poetry and Books: The China-French Cultural Exchanges Initiated by Emperor Qianlong’s Shengjing Fu” exhibition. It will display books and literature such as the French version of Shengjing Fu from the National Library of France, the Chinese version from the Liaoning Provincial Library, and a copy of Shengjing Fu of Qianlong’s calligraphy published by the Shenyang Imperial Palace Museum.
