Recently, the qipao donation ceremony for international students was held at Liaoning University as part of the “Experiencing China·Charming Liaoning” themed tour. During the ceremony, Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service presented Irkutsk State University in Russia with 10 delicate miniatures of intangible cultural qipao.
On July 12, teachers and students from the Confucius Institute of Irkutsk State University in Russia visited Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service to study the history of qipao and try on different styles. After experiencing the beauty of Chinese costumes, they fell in love with qipao. To deepen cultural exchanges between the two sides, Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service presented ten delicate miniature versions of intangible cultural qipao to Irkutsk State University.
These miniatures of intangible cultural qipao are exquisitely made, with each piece having its own unique characteristics and profound meaning. These miniature qipao are 70 centimeters in length, 24 centimeters in shoulder width, and 37 centimeters in chest circumference. They are made using draping techniques and traditional knot button handcraft. The fabrics used include brocade, calico, and silk, and the decorating patterns are rich and colorful. These patterns include ancient auspicious patterns, elegant plant patterns, and magnificent peony patterns.
Zhang Jihong, the Party Secretary of Liaoning Vocational Technical College of Modern Service, said, “Qipao is the embodiment of oriental classical beauty, and it is of profound significance to donate miniatures of intangible cultural qipao to the Confucius Institute of Irkutsk National University in Russia. It’s gratifying to know that students from Russia are fond of qipao. Using qipao as a link to carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture is a good opportunity to deepen the cultural exchanges between the two countries.”
