The themed academic event “Dialogues with distinguished scholars of world art history” was recently held at LuXun Academy of Fine Arts. The current session focused on the topic of “World Art History in Museums and Universities.” This event invited outstanding scholars worldwide who have made significant research contributions in this field, which aimed to facilitate cultural exchanges through round-table discussions, forums, and lectures. Notably, this marked the first time that this themed academic event took place in Shenyang.
Li Shuchun, vice president of LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, delivered an opening speech at the forum, and over 30 experts and scholars participated in this activity to discuss relevant academic topics. As a distinguished guest speaker, Professor Marzia Faietti, President of the Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art, who came from the University of Bologna in Italy presented an overview of the preservation of Italian cultural and environmental heritages, and discussed the ways and prospects of collaboration between universities and museums in China and Italy. The theme of “World Art History in Museums and Universities” was divided into four sections: “artworks” as a bridge, “mechanisms” as a bridge, “institutions” as a bridge, and “concepts” as a bridge. Professor Duan Yong from Shanghai University, delivered a keynote speech titled “Longing for My Dear One Under a Different Sky: The Convergence and Dispersion of the ‘Four Beauties’ in Museums of China, Britain, the United States, and Japan.” Zheng Jinling, a teacher at LuXun Academy of Fine Arts, delivered a keynote speech titled “Bridging Cultural Heritage and Innovation: A Case Study of Collaboration Between South Korean Museums and Universities.” Wang Lianming, associate professor of the Department of Chinese and History at City University of Hong Kong, gave a lecture on “A World Dotted with Kingfisher Blue: Feather Tributes and the Qing Imperial Court”.
The symbiotic, mutually supportive, and deeply intertwined relationship between museums and art historical narratives is a global phenomenon. The attending experts and scholars conducted analytical research at the theoretical level, engaging in in-depth discussions on how to promote deep collaborations between art historians and museum professionals, as well as how to establish effective mechanisms for cooperation between universities and museums.
