In the evening gala “A Wonderful Journey on Qingming Festival” aired on Henan TV, the female group dance “Adorning Hair with Flowers: Ladies of the Court” captivated the audience with its elegant choreography and classical makeup, garnering widespread acclaim. Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared a video of this classical dance produced by Shenyang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television and created by Shenyang Performing Arts Group on overseas social media platforms. He introduced and commended the piece to the world, stating “this female group dance is a harmonious fusion of Chinese poetry, dance, and music.”

“Adorning Hair with Flowers: Ladies of the Court” is a unique surviving masterpiece of Chinese painting of Tang Dynasty court ladies, currently collected in Liaoning Provincial Museum. Inspired by this artwork, Shenyang Performing Arts Group faithfully reproduced the costumes, makeup, and postures depicted in the painting. The Group transformed the artwork into a classical dance that vividly showcases the unique charm of the traditional Chinese culture.

After being recommended by Liaoning Dancers Association, the dance “Adorning Hair with Flowers: Ladies of the Court” went on to compete in the 13th China Lotus Awards for classical dance, securing an impressive sixth place. The dance embodies the spirit of animating cultural relics, exhibiting the distinctive charm of the Chinese culture through the art of dance.
