On April 19, Amman TAG-Confucius Institute in Jordan organized events with the theme of “Chinese Language: A Bridge for Civilization Exchange” to commemorate the 15th “International Chinese Language Day” designated by the United Nations. Activities such as Chinese calligraphy experience, Chinese character hard-tipped pen calligraphy competition, Chinese ink painting, and shadow puppetry performance learning are among the lists. Participants include Yang Songfang, the Chinese president of the institute, her counterparts from Jordan, Mamoun Al-Sebaa, teachers, students, parents, and local Chinese language enthusiasts.

Amman TAG-Confucius Institute, jointly developed by Shenyang Normal University and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global in Amman, Jordan, is one of the few Confucius Institutes jointly established by a university and a company globally. Teachers from Shenyang Normal University explained the development history of Chinese characters to Jordanian students and taught them how to write clerical script. The event triggered students’ interest in learning Chinese calligraphy, as they carefully wrote their Chinese names in clerical script. More than 20 works of calligraphy have been created, filling the venue with the fragrance of ink and a joyful atmosphere. As it is, Chinese calligraphy is not only an art but also a carrier of cultural exchange. Through experiencing Chinese calligraphy, Jordanian students become more proficient in the Chinese language. 

A total of 30 Chinese language enthusiasts from Jordan, aging from 6 to 63, are divided into children and adult groups when participating in the hard-tipped pen calligraphy competition. Contents of their writing were basically from classic Chinese poems.

Chinese language is one of the most time-honored languages and also the most widely spoken language in the world. An increasing number of people from different countries are voluntarily learning Chinese language as they appreciate the charm of Chinese culture by acquiring it.
