At the Russia-China Photography Art Exchange Exhibition recently held in St. Petersburg, Russia, the series of creative photography works “Fragments of Ice Flowers” produced by Yu Wei, a photographer from Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, won the special prize, attracting the attention of many Russian photography professionals and enthusiasts.
Yu Wei is a member of the China Artistic Photography Society, China Industrial Photography Association, and Liaoning Photographers Association. His creative photography works of ice flowers are exquisite and ethereal, epitomizing unique aesthetics and providing strong visual shocks. Over the past 10 years, he has continued to observe and compose the images of ice flowers on glass windows, and has taken nearly 40,000 black-and-white and color photos.
Ice flowers are ice crystals formed by the condensation of water vapor in the air, each appearing in a different shape whenever formed on windows. Yu Wei is meticulous in observing ice flowers, thus can refine distinctive photography compositions to present new visual experiences, by supplementing with magnificent light and shadow. The photographers from both China and Russia spoke highly of Yu’s works, marveling at the various forms and shapes of ice flowers under his lens, which showcase a gorgeous and captivating microscopic world.
The “Ice Flowers” series of creative photography works were selected for the 2023 International Art Joint Exhibition hosted by the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) and Association for the Development of Exchanges between France and China (A.D.E.F.C.). They have also been on tour exhibitions at world-renowned museums such as the Louvre Museum in France.
