On May 6, at Liaoning Provincial Museum, as “From Olmec Culture to Aztec Culture: Exhibition of Ancient Mexican Civilization” concluded, the Dialogue of Maize Culture Between China (Liaoning)-Mexico kicks off. The dialogue includes the China-Mexico Maize Culture Forum, the Liaoning Agricultural Product Exhibition, etc. Agricultural experts from Mexico, agricultural researchers and agricultural product distributors from Northeast China’s Liaoning Province gathered in Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning, to discuss maize culture and explore opportunities for cooperation and development.
Mexico is the birthplace of maize, boasting a rich and diverse maize culture, efficient maize cultivation, and exquisite maize processing techniques. Located in a favorable latitude zone for maize production, Liaoning is a major grain production province in China, with a strong competitive edge and influence in the maize industry. The cooperation between the two sides exhibits evident advantages and immense potential for mutual complementarity.
In the exhibition area for excellent and distinctive agricultural products, representative maize products from 14 cities in Liaoning Province were displayed. Six agricultural experts from Mexico stopped by, immersing themselves in the understanding of agricultural production and processing in Liaoning. Leobigildo Córdova Téllez, Director of the Department of Seed Industry under Mexico’s Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed that during his two-day visit to Liaoning, he investigated the maize production and sales industry, and saw a wide variety of maize products in the province, including maize noodles, maize beverages, and fresh maize on the cob. Mexico also has a diverse range of maize products, although different from those in Liaoning. He hopes to have an opportunity to introduce Mexico’s maize production technology and products to Liaoning, thereby promoting commercial and technological cooperation.
During the China-Mexico Maize Culture Forum, Mexican agricultural experts introduced the development of ancient Mexican civilization and maize culture, as well as the current situation of maize cultivation in the country. Experts from Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shenyang Agricultural University presented the characteristics, current status, and development prospects of the maize industry in Liaoning.
The Dialogue of Maize Culture Between China (Liaoning)-Mexico, centering around maize, aims to promote Liaoning’s agricultural advantages through discussions and exchanges on maize culture, technological breeding, cultivation, and deep processing. It further facilitates communication and cooperation between Liaoning and Mexico in agricultural technology, maize industry, and integration of culture and tourism.
