On June 5th, the exhibition When the Stars Shine - Art in the Age of Victoria was held at the Liaoning Provincial Museum. This is the first exhibition of art treasures from the Victorian age in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province.

Co-organized by the Liaoning Provincial Museum and the National Museums Liverpool, the exhibition is divided into four parts, each with a different theme, including “Changing Landscapes”, “Evolving Images”, “Ancient Styles with a New Twist and Chinese Charm”, and “Beauty and Sorrow”. A total of 99 pieces (sets) of exhibits are displayed, encompassing oil paintings, sculptures, embroideries, costumes, etc. Following the display of treasures from Japan, Laos, and Mexico, this is another large-scale exhibition of foreign cultural relics hosted by the Liaoning Provincial Museum, which will last for four months and conclude on October 7th.

The National Museums Liverpool has sent four staff to assist with the setup at the Liaoning Provincial Museum. Laura Jane, director of the National Museums Liverpool, introduced, “The artworks exhibited this time are from the National Museums Liverpool and its affiliated art museums and galleries. They present a panoramic and multi-faceted view of the artistic style in the age of Victoria. I am greatly honored to be able to participate in cultural exchanges with China and am sincerely expecting future cultural exchanges and cooperation with Liaoning.”

Additionally, with ideas from the themes and cultural relics of this exhibition, the Liaoning Provincial Museums has created a series of cultural and creative products to provide a medium for visitors to appreciate the art of the Victorian era.
