On October 25, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held the fifth press conference of the series on the economic performance of Liaoning in the first three quarters of 2024, presenting developments in the province’s culture and tourism industry of the period.
In the first three quarters, Liaoning received a total of 513.661 million tourists, up by 32.4% from the previous year, 15.6 percentage points higher than the national average. Total revenues in tourism reached 525.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 39.5%, 22.4 percentage points higher than the national average. The province hosted 265,000 foreign tourists, up by 67.7% year-on-year.
Good progress was made in brand construction. Specifically, Shenyang was awarded as the “Top 10 Cities Satisfying Tourists”, the “Top 10 Cities in Ice and Snow Tourism”, and the “Top 10 Cities in Nighttime Economy”, at the national level. Changshan Archipelago, a scenic spot in Changhai County, Dalian City, was recognized as a national-level tourist resort, which was the first of its type in Liaoning.
Since the beginning of this year, upholding the principle that “when one industry prospers, all other industries would thrive”, the culture and tourism industry of Liaoning drove the consumption growth in such fields as transport, accommodation, restaurants, and retail trade. In the first three quarters, the province ranked 9th nationwide in mega airports with an annual passenger throughput of at least 10 million and 12th in cargo flights. During the National Day holiday, it ranked No.1 nationwide in bookings of restaurants.
Next, Liaoning will continue to create new scenarios for cultural and tourism consumption. The province will foster new scenarios for ice and snow consumption, launching various programs such as “Public Ice and Snow Activities + Hot Spring + Local Custom Experience”. It will enhance its nighttime economy through tourism, building new business forms during holidays that will boost its nighttime economic growth through food, tourism, shopping, and entertainment activities.
