To explore the mechanism of collaborative education between museums and education sectors, the Liaoning Provincial Museum and the Shenyang Education Bureau jointly hosted the “I’m a Little Museum Researcher” project-based learning achievement display and experience exchange meeting. More than 300 representatives from education bureaus of Shenyang’s districts, teacher training schools, and primary and secondary schools participated in the event online and offline.

The “I’m a Little Museum Researcher” project-based learning activity was officially launched on December 6, 2024. This activity adopted the form of cooperation between museums and schools, effectively connecting education sectors with cultural and museum institutions, and promoting the organic integration of school education, family education, and social education. Over the past six months, 40 schools have carried out learning and practice activities in the Liaoning Provincial Museum, achieving fruitful results in the cooperation between museums and schools, as well as collaborative education. This is not only a bold and beneficial attempt in the initial stage of the construction of the Shenyang Education Alliance, but also an essential step for project-based learning activities to stride out of schools, and expand into a broad social and cultural space.

The participants viewed the project-based learning achievements. During the meeting, Project-Based Education for the FutureIm a Little Museum Researcher Project-Based Learning and Education Reform Practice Activities in Shenyang, a video collection produced by the Shenyang Education Research Institute, was played. Based on these achievements, 12 primary and secondary schools exchanged their experiences through writing materials. The Shenyang Education Research Institute gave comments on the event.

Wang Xiaowen, deputy director of the Liaoning Provincial Public Cultural Service Center, and curator of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, delivered a speech at the meeting. In 2024, the museum launched the annual major exhibition “Splendid Mountains and Rivers—Liao and Jin Dynasties Cultural Relics Themed Exhibition”, unfolding a magnificent scroll of the common prosperity and development of multiple ethnic groups in Chinese history and further interpreting the profundity and far-reaching influence of Chinese civilization from the perspective of Liaoning’s regional cultures. Wang said, “Cultural relics are not only the witnesses of history, but also rare, high-quality educational resources. Building upon exhibitions, we, together with the Shenyang Education Bureau and the Shenyang Education Research Institute, launched the ‘I’m a Little Museum Researcher’ project-based learning activity. This aims to guide students to experience the time-honored history and splendid culture of Chinese civilization, stimulate their strong interest in China’s excellent traditional culture, improve their comprehensive quality, and enhance their cultural confidence.” In the next step, the Liaoning Provincial Museum will continue to uphold the development concept of collaborative progress, openness and integration, deepen close cooperation with education sectors to jointly implement the educational mission of “fostering virtue through education”, and strive to create distinctive research and practice courses to help students gain insights from cultural immersion, and inherit civilization through practical exploration.
