Liaoning Provincial Museum Launches Series of Activities for Cultural and Natural Heritage Day

June 14 is the 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, with the theme of “revitalizing cultural heritage to showcase new brilliance”. The Liaoning Provincial Museum will launch a variety of wonderful activities, showcasing progress and achievements in the protection, inheritance, and utilization of cultural heritage with high-quality cultural and museum products and services, to enhance public awareness of cultural relics protection.

Extending Opening Hours to Fully Enjoy Cultural Exhibitions
From June 14, the Liaoning Provincial Museum will extend its opening hours until 8 pm. During the 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, visitors can not only appreciate the largest-ever Dunhuang culture exhibition in Northeast China—“Affinity in Mountains and Seas· Echoes of the Desert Sands - Meeting Dunhuang in Liaoning”, but also experience digital programs such as immersive XR large-space experience - “Exploring the Han Dynasty Haihun Fief”, large-scale cosmic exploration VR immersive experience - “Galactic Rhapsody: Verse One”, and visit exhibitions such as “She Walks in Beauty: Women in Classical Roman Times” and “Splendor of Tang and Song Dynasties—Art World in Digital Paintings”.

Special Lectures Focusing on Cultural Heritage
During this year’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, the Liaoning Provincial Museum will launch two lectures on June 15, which visitors can attend on-site by appointment or watch online via Douyin and WeChat video channels.

On June 15, Cai Qin, a research librarian from the Zhejiang Provincial Museum, will deliver a special lecture titled “A Glimpse from Cultural Relics: The Life Scene of Han Dynasty Women”. Ding Xiaosheng, deputy director of the cultural relics digitalization institute of the Dunhuang Academy, will hold a wonderful lecture for visitors on “Digital Dunhuang: Innovative Practices in Scientific and Technological Protection of Cultural Heritage through Multidisciplinary Collaboration”.

Diverse Activities to Experience Traditional Crafts
On the occasion of the 2025 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, the “Botan Yaji” of the Liaoning Provincial Museum will launch a special event, inviting visitors to enter the “Manchu Folk Customs Exhibition”, listen to the stories behind cultural relics, and experience the traditional velvet flower craftsmanship.

The “Meeting Dunhuang” series of educational activities, centered on the exhibition “Affinity in Mountains and Seas· Echoes of the Desert Sands- Meeting Dunhuang in Liaoning” will be launched again. Participants can create a refrigerator magnet featuring the pattern of “Dunhuang caisson ceilings” by using filigree inlay techniques.

The Liaoning Provincial Museum will also launch the featured guided tour of “Caisson Ceiling Weaving Dreams of Dunhuang”, the “From Warring States to Sui and Tang Dynasties: Digital Light and Shadow" series of activities of the Liaoning Provincial Museum Star Research Institute, and children’s experience hall featured activities such as “Cultural Relics Puzzle Fun”, “Adventures of Qin Xiaokai” and short play performances of “Open the Door of History”.

Volunteer Services to Tell Cultural Relics Stories
On June 14, volunteers from the Liaoning Provincial Museum will provide featured guide services to parent-child families about exhibitions of Ming and Qing jade wares, Ming and Qing porcelain, and ancient bronze mirrors. Children and parents are encouraged to engage in parent-child dialogues, share stories of “national treasures”, and gain the opportunity to receive commemorative badges and exclusive certificates.

During this year’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, volunteers from the Liaoning Provincial Museum will also enter Xinggong No.1 Primary School in Tiexi District, Shenyang, to carry out the “Approaching History—Liaoning Provincial Museum Volunteers Entering Campus” activity, using diversified means to bring cultural and museum exhibitions into classrooms and popularize cultural relics protection knowledge and concepts to students.

Enter the Community to Support Public-Benefit Cultural Programs

In recent years, the Liaoning Provincial Museum has deeply excavated and fully utilized cultural resources, and carried out public-benefit cultural activities at the community level. Taking this year’s Cultural and Natural Heritage Day as an opportunity, the museum plans to enter communities to hold lectures and cultural and museum photo exhibitions, and carry out various popular science education activities. Specifically, the activities include holding lectures at the New Era Civilization Practice Center in Xigang District, Dalian City, the New Era Civilization Practice Center in Lishan District, Anshan City, and the New Era Civilization Practice Center in Dongzhou District, Fushun City, to promote cultural and museum knowledge; holding cultural and museum photo exhibitions at the New Era Civilization Practice Center in Benxi County, Benxi City, to better meet the exhibition needs of local visitors; and going to Beizhen County-level City, Jianping County, and other places in Liaoning to carry out public welfare cultural and museum activities.
