A unique artistic experience unfolded at the Shenyang Hongmei Cultural and Creative Park, where piano variations blended with woody fragrance and erhu melodies. This innovative “sensory art experiment” by the French pianist and perfumer Laurent Assoulen reinterpreted Eastern aesthetics through a French artistic lens.
Assoulen’s Sentire-Le Concert Parfumé jazz-perfume salon adeptly combined piano melodies with special fragrances, creating a transcendent multi-sensory experience. His original piece Chinese Horse, specially composed for China, skillfully incorporates the erhu’s distinctive timbre to embody the spirit of freedom in Chinese equine culture.
Held in a repurposed industrial space, the event not only showcased East-West artistic fusion, but also allowed the French artist to discover Shenyang’s unique charm. Inspired by the city’s rich historical heritage and modern vitality, Assoulen expressed his plans to create more works blending Eastern and Western elements, based on his Chinese journey.
