On July 30, the 2025 Liaoning Intangible Cultural Heritage Summer Expo kicked off at the Liaoning Provincial Museum. Under the theme “Infusing Intangible Cultural Heritage into Modern Life,” this expo innovatively builds an immersive cultural experience platform integrating “culture and museums + intangible cultural heritage + tourism,” attracting numerous Chinese and international visitors to enjoy the cultural feast.
This expo gathers more than 40 intangible cultural heritage items, such as Xiuyan Manchu paper cutting and Shenyang Hu Kuizhang writing brush making, allowing visitors to deeply experience the charm of “living inheritance of intangible cultural heritage” through dynamic exhibitions, interactive workshops, cultural and tourism check-ins, and other diverse forms during this summer travel season.
In the hands-on practice area, the representative inheritor of Shenyang Hu Kuizhang Writing Brush Making personally guides visitors to experience traditional Chinese calligraphy and feel its glamor; in the audio-visual feast area, melodious guqin (a seven-stringed zither) music and forceful morin khuur music create a multi-sensory feast for visitors each day; in the inheritor interaction area, many representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage demonstrate their superb techniques on site, and interact with visitors by sharing the stories behind their creations.
French teenagers studying in Liaoning Province, as well as foreign expats working or studying in Shenyang, also come to experience the charm of Liaoning’s intangible cultural heritage. Thanya Saeyang, a Thai international student from Shenyang Normal University, expresses great interest in intangible cultural heritage items such as Li’s paper pleating, Xibe costume making, Manchu embroidery, and Liaoxi puppetry. Saeyang even films a vlog recording his summer journey of intangible cultural heritage.
The expo aims to empower tourism through culture, revitalize intangible cultural heritage through tourism, and boost the cultural industry through intangible cultural heritage, offering the public a cultural feast that is entertaining, enjoyable, and shoppable. The feast will last until August 3.
