On August 7, the Liaoning Provincial Museum hosted a launch and symposium for the new book Dunhuang Manuscripts in Liaoning Provincial Museum. Co-organized by the Liaoning Provincial Museum, Chinese Association of Dunhuang and Turfan Studies, and Shanghai Classics Publishing House, the event gathered renowned experts in Dunhuang studies, and representatives from the cultural, museum, and book publishing industries, to witness the release of this significant research achievement that embodies profound scholarly accumulations.

Published by Shanghai Classics Publishing House, Dunhuang Manuscripts in Liaoning Provincial Museum is a project of the National 14th Five-Year Plan for Publication, a key publishing project of the National Ancient Classics Program (2021-2035), and a project funded by the National Special Fund for the Compilation and Publication of Ancient Classics. As a significant milestone achievement of the “Systematic Preservation, Compilation, and Publication Project for Dunhuang Manuscripts”, it has also been included in the “Complete Collection of Dunhuang Manuscripts”. The Liaoning Provincial Museum’s collection of over 100 Dunhuang manuscripts, including many rare treasures, is of great value to Dunhuang studies, and the preservation of Dunhuang manuscripts.

Dunhuang Manuscripts in Liaoning Provincial Museum is the first book to showcase the Dunhuang manuscripts in the collection of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, highlighting Liaoning’s significant contributions to Dunhuang studies, Dunhuang manuscript publishing, and the inheritance and promotion of Dunhuang culture.

This new book was compiled by Guo Dan, a researcher at the Liaoning Provincial Museum. Based on a comprehensive review, it authenticates, categorizes, and analyzes the museum’s collection of Dunhuang manuscripts, covering the summary, categorization and research review. Notably, the vast majority of the manuscripts are published in their entirety for the first time. The book comprises five volumes, and contains approximately 1,400 illustrations.
