On October 28, the Information Office of Liaoning Provincial People’s Government held a press conference to introduce the province’s progress in aging-related development.
Liaoning recently released its 2024 Annual Report on Aging-related Development. By the end of 2024, the population aged 60 and over in Liaoning stood at 12.95 million, representing 31.2% of the province’s total population; the population aged 65 and over reached 9.10 million, accounting for 21.9%.
Social security coverage continued to expand. By the end of 2024, the number of people covered by the basic old-age insurance for urban employees in Liaoning reached 21.803 million, and those covered by the basic old-age insurance scheme for urban and rural residents totaled 10.118 million. Enterprise annuity schemes had been established by 4,515 enterprises, covering 516,000 employees.
The elderly care service system has been continuously improved. By the end of 2024, there were 2,421 elderly care institutions across the province, with a total of 212,200 beds, and 14,000 community elderly care facilities in urban and rural areas, providing convenient services such as meal assistance, home cleaning, mobility support, and bathing assistance for older adults. At the same time, 307,000 older adults received old-age allowances; 28,000 received elderly care subsidies; 10,500 received nursing care subsidies; and 252,500 older adults with disabilities benefited from the two types of subsidies.
Liaoning has also further expanded services in rehabilitation medicine, elderly nursing, and palliative care. By the end of 2024, Liaoning had 17 geriatric hospitals and 1,646 provincial-level age-friendly healthcare institutions. Efforts to build an age-friendly living environment continued to be strengthened. In 2024, the renovation of 813 old urban residential communities began, benefiting 256,000 households.
